Let There Be Sunlight!
We often team up with Brooklyn-based Sunburst Studios to recreate historic leaded glass.
In this Brooklyn Heights townhouse, we worked together to create a lay light that is a decorative filter between the exterior skylight and interior space. Hands-on collaboration between our design team and the artisans at Sunburst created a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
1. Skylight well before construction.
2. Existing skylight removed from wall.
3. Colored glass study.
4. Initial sketch of new skylight.
5. Initial paper mockup of the skylight.
6. Skylight designed traced onto paper.
7. Glass panes put together.
8. Completed skylight, before installation.
As shown below, the decorative leaded glass sits atop the staircase, immediately below the skylight well. This configuration allows the leaded glass to remain safe from the elements and ensures that our team was able to include a better performing exterior skylight into the system.
