Before & After: Bold Brooklyn Heights Kitchen

In this Brooklyn Heights kitchen, the key to unlocking the parlor floor was expanding the kitchen to occupy the full width of the rear of the building. Collaboration with Elspeth Benoit pushed the final design into an exciting, unexpected territory.

Before
Taking advantage of the large bay to anchor the space, we added an eat-in island and moved the appliances along the wall.

Custom cabinetry ensures that the family had room for all of their storage needs, and traditional finishes in a bright white truly made the room feel like home. New herringbone wood floors with a dark trim around the exterior perimeter added a playful touch.

Before
Bold red wallpaper, a blue-upholstered banquette, and copper pendant light create an inviting and exciting breakfast nook.

The banquette communicates better with the rest of the space as a breakfast nook than it did when the kitchen sink and appliances were crowded into it. The combination of artful pendant lights and recessed lighting creates many lighting options to fit the family's needs.

Before
Replacing the windows, installing a skylight, and adding French doors to the rear yard made the space nearly unrecognizable.
